Chinese4/14/2013 巴比倫,猶大的征服者English

4/14/2013 Babylonia, Conqueror of Judah
Scriptures:2 Kings 22-25
Heart of the Passage:2 Kings 22,25
Overview

Hezekiah, perhaps the best king in Judah's history, is succeeded by Manasseh, quite possibly the worst! Manasseh's 55-year reign of terror sends the nation into a spiritual stupor from which it will never fully recover. Even godly King Josiah is powerless to reverse the wicked trends in his nation, though his crusade for righteousness postpones the inevitable for a few more decades. After Josiah's death, there can be no escaping the long-delayed consequences of Judah's idolatry' and immorality. The black cloud of God's judgment sweeps down upon the nation in the form of Nebuchadnezzar and the armies of Babylon. Judah. who had refused to learn from the sad example of her northern sister, Israel, now experiences the same calamities: death, destruction, and deportation to a new "home" in exile.

Your Daily Walk

Next time you visit your church, take a minute to stop by the lost and found area and notice the large number of Bibles that have become separated from their owners. Now imagine that some day no one is able to find a Bible. Through neglect or indifference, the Word of God simply disappeared from pew racks and purses, classrooms and coat pockets. Not a copy can be found in the entire church. Would that affect the way your church conducts its services, or would anyone notice the loss?
Perhaps the saddest commentary on Josiah's day is that the Word of God was missing—but nobody missed it. Brainstorm for a few minutes on ways you can make the Bible more visible and vital in your home, office, church, or school. Lost or found, the choice is yours.

Insight

1 and 2 Kings, the Beginning and the End
1 Kings begins with--2 Kings ends with
• David, king of Israel--• Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon
• Solomon's glory--• Jehoiachin's shame
• the temple consecrated--• the temple desecrated
• blessing for obedience--• judgment for disobedience
• the growth of apostasy--• the consequences of apostasy
• the united kingdom divided--• the divided kingdom destroyed

Adage

Give me a Bible and a candle, shut me up in a dungeon, and I will tell you what the world is doing.
