經文:詩篇第七二、七三篇
鑰節:「您要以您的訓言引導我,以後必接我到榮耀裡。」(73:24)
提要

        從題目看,詩篇第七二篇是所羅門王所撰兩篇詩篇之一(另一篇是第一二七篇)。其中的最後一節經文指出,這一詩篇是大衛第二部禱告書中的最後一篇,但是它不一定是說作者就是大衛。它似乎是一首聖詩,作為大衛後裔在猶大加冕時之用。不過,從它的內容來看,顯然地上的君王沒有一個曾經實踐過其中所說的話。猶太人的傳統認為,這是一篇屬於彌賽亞的詩篇,就像早期教會所認為的那樣。它描述偉大的大衛之子,耶穌基督的統治。王的職份不僅是世代相傳的,而且也是由上帝所揀選與設立的,因為以色列是一個神權國家(由上帝所統治),她的諸王都要臣服在這位大君的面前。由於耶穌是來自大衛家,祂對王位有繼承權,及為上帝揀選為王。彌賽亞的統治才是公義的統治,因為上帝的統治下所有的人都會受到公平的審判,而且不會再有任何壓迫人的人(72:1~4)。

        基督的普世統治的特色就是和平、及義人的興旺,而且所有的人都要敬畏祂。人們會不斷地禱告,永遠讚美祂,同時地上沒有仇敵造反作亂,因此,也沒有戰爭。萬國都要臣服在基督的面前;他們都會敬拜,也要祝福祂。祂要照顧貧窮的人,所以世上就不會有窮人,而且人人都有富裕的生活。祇有耶穌基督,這位大君可以說,祂的聖名要存到永遠,以及全地都充滿了祂的榮耀(腓2:9、11)。作為信徒,我們在耶穌基督身上所有的希望是多麼榮耀啊!

        詩篇第七三篇是亞薩所作;他是大衛的利未人詩班的領袖;在希西家統治的時代,他所作的詩歌都為利未人詩班所唱(代上15:16~19;代下廿九:30)。他一直都在為惡人興旺與義人受苦深感內心的掙扎(約伯記及詩卅七篇都有敘述),然而他知道,那些在上帝面前心裡清潔的人(不僅是儀式上的潔淨)都會受到上帝的祝福(72:1)。即使如此,他幾乎失去了他的信心,因為當他看到,惡人享有財富,並且越來越富有時,他不僅傷感,而且也憤怒。他們生活既富裕、又安逸,甚至他們驕傲,更不敬畏上帝,同時,也不相信上帝會看到及聽到他們不義的作為;他們都不信上帝,所以他們不信世上有上帝的存在(73:11)。

        懷疑潛入了詩人的思維,所以他開始懷疑自己的靈性。那是值得的嗎?那會產生任何差異嗎?他想了一會說,如果他也走惡人的道路,他的日子會過得更好一些(73:13~14)。不過,他知道,作為一位屬靈的領袖,他要對那一代的人負責;每當他想到,由於他所說的輕率的話使一代人失喪,他就感到痛苦不已;所以他不敢說出心裡的疑惑和抱怨,惟恐將人們領入迷途(73:15)。他一直沒有辦法擺脫這個惱人的難題;於是他到經常敬拜上帝、思想上帝話語的聖所中,向上帝禱告,並且在禱告中將自己的焦慮交託在上帝的手裡之後,心裡才有平安。這是一個轉捩點。最後,他恍然澈悟了道理!他明白當惡人日後死亡時,他們必受到上帝公義的審判(73:18~20、27);上帝是一位有恩典、也有憐憫的上帝,所以祂並沒有立即消滅惡人。

        詩人現在不再嫉妒了,但是卻感到悲傷,因為他覺得自己太愚蠢了,竟然懷疑是否應該走上帝的道路,及過公義的生活。他明白,由於上帝不斷地帶領他(藉著禱告及思想上帝的話語),上帝有一天會接納他,使祂進入榮耀。這個有關天堂與永生,及信徒所持榮耀盼望的啟示是多麼的顯著啊!詩人現在決定信靠耶和華,也要更接近祂,好向世人見證上帝的榮耀(73:28)。

禱告

        親愛的主啊,我們知道,有一天,您會降臨統治這個世界,為世人帶來和平,使您的榮耀充滿這個世界。我們要在今生保持對永生的展望,使我們倚靠您,也將福音傳給失喪的人。奉主耶穌基督聖名,阿們!

Overview

        Psalm 72 is one of the two psalms ascribed to Solomon in the title (the other being Psalm 127). The final verse of this psalm indicates that this psalm is the last within the second book of the prayers of David, but does not necessarily indicate Davidic authorship. It appears that it is a hymn to be used at the cornation of a descendant of David in Judah. However, from the contents it is clear that no earthly king could ever fulfill all the beautiful words spoken. Jewish tradition understood this psalm to be Messianic, as did the early church. It depicts the peaceful reign of the Great Son of David, Jesus Christ. Kingship was not only determined by descent, but by divine appointment, for Israel was under a theocracy (rule of God), and her kings were subjected to the Great King. Since Jesus was from the House of David, He had an inherited right to kingship, as well as divine authority to be King. The Messiah's reign will be the only truly righteous reign, since God will govern. All people will be judged impartially, and there will no longer be any oppressors (72:1-4).

        Christ's universal dominion (millennial reign) will be characterized by peace and the flourishing of the righteous, for all will fear Him. There will be continual prayer and praise to Him and an absence of enemy uprisings — therefore, no war. All nations will be subjected to Christ; they will worship and bless Him. He will care for the needy, so there might be no needy people, but there will be an abundance for everyone. Only of Jesus Christ the King can it be said that His name will endure forever and the whole earth will be filled with His glory (Philippians 2:9-11). What a glorious hope we as believers have in Christ Jesus!

        Psalm 73 was composed by Asaph, one of David's Levitical choir leaders, whose songs were later sung by the Levitical choir during Hezekiah's reign (1 Chron. 15:16-19; 2 Chron. 29:30). He was struggling with the prosperity of the wicked and the sufferings of the righteous (also dealt with in the Book of Job and Psalm 37), yet he knew that those whose hearts were clean before God (and not merely ceremonially clean) were blessed by God (73:1). Even so, he nearly slipped in his faith, for he felt offended and angered when he saw that the wicked were enjoying wealth and getting wealthier. They were healthy and lived at ease, even though they were proud and did not fear God, nor did they even believe God could see and hear them; they were so ungodly that they questioned His very existence (73:11).

        Doubts had crept into the psalmist's mind about his own spirituality. Was it worthwhile? Does it make any difference? He thought for a moment that he might be better off if he went the way of the wicked (73:13-14). He knew, however, that as a spiritual leader, he was responsible to his generation and it was painful for him to even imagine a whole generation lost because of his rash words; so he dared not voice his doubts and complaints lest he lead anyone astray (73:15). The troublesome dilemma stayed with him until he took his concerns to the Lord in prayer within God's sanctuary, where he would have worshipped God and meditated on His Word. This was the turning point. Finally he was enlightened! He understood that God's justice and judgment would be dealt out to the wicked in their latter end when they would perish (73:18-20; 27), and it was only because of His grace that He did not consume them immediately.

        The psalmist was now no longer envious but grieved because of his foolishness and carnal mindedness in doubting the importance of following God's ways and living a pure and righteous life. He realized that with God's continual guidance and counsel (by prayer and meditating on God's Word), God would one day receive him to glory. What a remarkable revelation about heaven and eternal life, the hope of glory for the believer! The psalmist now resolves to trust in the Lord and draw closer to Him, that he may be a witness for God (73:28).

Prayer

        Dear Lord, we know that one day You will come to rule and reign, bringing perfect peace and filling the whole earth with Your glory. May we keep an eternal perspective in this present life, causing us to rest in You and reach the lost.
