Chinese9/24/2009 馬和角的異象English

9/24/2009 Visions of Horses and Horns
Scriptures:Zechariah 1-2
Heart of the Passage:Zechariah 1:1-17
Overview

Zechariah is the longest of the Minor Prophets (the books of Hosea-Malachi) and contains more messianic prophecies than perhaps any other Old Testament book. Zechariah and Haggai ministered to the same audience, hut their lives and books bear many striking contrasts. Haggai was old; Zechariah was young. Haggai exhorted; Zechariah encouraged. Haggai preached sermons; Zechariah shared signs. Haggai was an activist; Zechariah was a visionary.

Your Daily Walk

How would you evaluate the contribution your father made to your spiritual life? (a) negligible; (b) sizable; (c) enormous.
Four times in his opening verses, Zechariah mentions the sorry state of Judah's fathers (1:2, 4-6) who, by ignoring God and pursuing evil, brought divine judgment upon themselves and their children.
Fathers, yours is an awesome assignment: to assist your children in becoming men and women of God. And the eloquent, yet painful testimony of Scripture is this: Children will seldom rise to a higher spiritual plane than that of their parents. Read the first six verses of Zechariah as if it were a manual entitled How to Succeed as a Father because that is just what those verses will help you do!

Insight

Eight Visions of Comfort and Woe —
During the next three days, you will read Zechariah's eight night visions—five full of comfort and three full of condemnation. Can you give each a short title after you have read it?

Adage

What a father says to his children is not heard by the world, but it will be heard by posterity.
