Chinese9/25/2009 衣服和燈臺的異象English

9/25/2009 Visions of Clothes and Candlesticks
Scriptures:Zechariah 3-4
Heart of the Passage:Zechariah 3
Overview

The opening six verses of Zechariah's book give the reader valuable insight into how the visions that Zechariah relates should be interpreted. God is calling His people back to a fresh commitment to Him—a commitment demonstrated in rearranged priorities and rekindled worship. God desires to cleanse and use His nation. Like a candlestick and lamps, Israel can bear light to a darkened world "not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit saith the LORD of hosts" (4:6).

Visions of Judgment on Israel

Your Daily Walk

Question: What do a lightbulb covered with mud, a window covered with soot, and a life spotted with sin have in common?
Answer: They are all incapable of allowing light to shine through them for the benefit of others. Regardless of how bright and pure the light, the net result will be darkness until the din is dealt with. The problem is not with the source of light but rather with the vessel through which the light is shining.
Jesus told His disciples, "Ye are the light of the world," and urged them, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:14, 16). But He also warned them of the danger of dirtiness: "If therefore the light that is in thee be [turned to] darkness, how great is that darkness!" (Matthew 6:23). A life clouded with unconfessed sin is as frustrating as a mud-caked lightbulb.
Take a "spot check" of your life right now. Do you have the Light within you (John 1:1-12)? If so, are there "dirt spots" that are obscuring that fact in the eyes of others? You'll find God's divine "glass cleaner" of forgiveness as near as 1 John 1:9.

Insight

The Prophet from the Temple Precincts —
Zechariah, descendant of Iddo (1:1-7), was more than a prophet; he was also a priest (compare Nehemiah 12:1-16. noting especially verses 4 and 16). This helps to explain his frequent reference to the temple in his visions and sermons. Watch for two such "temple flashbacks" in today's section, and others in the rest of the book.

Adage

You are only young once, but immaturity can last a lifetime.
