11/27/2009 Paul's Authority as a Gospel Minister
Scriptures:2 Corinthians 10-13
Heart of the Passage:2 Corinthians 10,13
Overview

Paul's final words to the Corinthians are sprinkled with the personal pronounce as he speaks about his distinguished ancestry and dedicated service. He draws repeatedly upon his authority as an apostle in order to deal effectively with the problems in Corinth. In strong terms Paul exhorts the rebellious to repent so that his approaching visit can be a time of rejoicing rather than rebuke. The letter closes with the typical Pauline benediction and greetings.

Admonition

Your Daily Walk

An elephant and a flea, they say.
Crossed over a bridge one day.
To the elephant raid the flea:
"We shook that one didn't we!"
Ridiculous? Of course. But no more ridiculous than when you boast of things you have done—and leave God out of the picture.
The Bible abounds with imagery of the believer's dependence upon God's strength and faithfulness:
•You are clay in the Potter's hands (Jeremiah 18:6}.
•You are a branch abiding in the Vine (John 15;5).
•You are a member of Christ's body, of which He is the Head (Romans 12:4-5; Ephesians 1:22-23).
That's not to say boasting is inappropriate in the Christian life. In 2 Corinthians, perhaps Paul's most personal letter, he uses the word boast a total of 13 times. But notice who and what Paul was boasting about! "He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord" (10:17).
Take Paul's advice right now! In a note, phone call, or visit, share with one other person today the greatness of your God. It might be just the encouragement that person needs to trust in Him also!

Insight

The Irony of the Church's Mission —
Question: Is the church's role to build up or tear down? Answer. Both! To build up Christians (Ephesians 4:16), and to tear down Satan's spiritual strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

Adage

You will never need more than God can supply.
