        What Hosea pictured with his life in chapters 1-3, he now prophesies with his lips in chapters 4-l4. Israel's gross sin has not escaped the notice of her holy God. But God promises; "I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings" (4:9).

        Look at the list of Israel's offenses which you have just compiled. Keep in mind these were God's chosen people—recipients of the Old Testament Scriptures, the messages of the prophets, and a centuries-old heritage of His blessings. The judgment that Hosea now proclaims should never have had to come. But come it did, showing dial no nation is exempt from the wrath of God when sin takes hold.
        Next to the column labeled "Israel's Conduct," start a new one entitled, "My Nation's Conduct." Then don the robe of Hosea and evaluate what you find. Are conditions any better? Has your homeland responded to the preaching of God's Word any differently? God is waiting for you and your nation to respond with the words of Hosea 6:1, 3. Will you make that your sincere prayer right now?
