Chinese7/6/2013 給君王的勸誡English

7/6/2013 Wise Words for the King
Scriptures:Proverbs 22-24
Heart of the Passage:Proverbs 24
Overview

The final 11 chapters of Proverbs contain sound counsel for those in positions of authority. The key to the section is hanging at the front door (21:1-2)—"The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts." Today's reading contains wise counsel for anyone in a position of responsibility: from parents to princes, pastors to potentates. Leaders need to know God's moral, ethical, and spiritual precepts if they are to direct their charges into God-honoring paths of conduct and character.

Your Daily Walk

It has been well said, "The things that count most in life are the things that cannot be counted." What do you value most? On a scale of 1 to 10 (with I being low and 10 being high), how much do you value ...
        _____. a good name?
        _____. reverence?
        _____. mercy?
        _____. humility?
        _____. generosity?
        _____. honesty?
These qualities—and others—are indispensable for a godly leader. If you weren't totally satisfied with the numbers you assigned, spend some extra moments medilating on these proverbs:
        • A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold (22:1).
        • By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life (22:4).
        • Be not a witness against thy neighbor without cause; and deceive not with thy lips (24:28).

Insight

Proverbs—Handle with Care!
Learned world rulers once traveled to Jerusalem to hear the wisdom of Solomon (1 Kings 10). Later, Jesus would claim to be greater than Solomon {Luke 11:31). And Jesus warned that those who heard His teaching but failed to respond would one day be condemned by the rulers of Solomon's day. Today you are reading the same wisdom they responded to—and God expects you to handle it with the same care!

Adage

If you're not afraid to face the music, you may some day lead the band.
