Scriptures:Malachi 1-4
Heart of the Passage:Malachi 1、4
Overview

Malachi brings down tta curtain on Old Testament prophecy. Malachi the prophet and Nehemiah the builder were contemporaries, and the problems Nehemiah faced became the basis for the sermons Malachi preached. Corrupt priests, mixed marriages, calloused consciences—these were the conditions under which Malachi wrote. Using a question-and-answer style, Malachi highlights the arrogance and insensitivity of God's people. His convicting words of judgment usher in 400 years of silence during which God's prophetic voice is no longer heard. But the last book of the Old Testament anticipates the first book of the New, where John the Baptist breaks the silence by declaring, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord" (Matthew 3:3).

Your Daily Walk

Today you will read the last of the 929 chapters, 23,214 verses, 592,439 words, and approximately 2,728,100 letters in the Old Testament (if you are using a King James Version of the Bible). Congratulations! You've reached a significant milestone in your goal of mastering God's Word ... and allowing it to master you.
Malachi concludes the Old Testament with a final reminder that sin must be dealt with. Tomorrow as you begin reading through the New Testament, you'll discover God's provision for mankind's sin-sickness—Christ the Messiah. Perhaps you've already heard and responded to that Good News for yourself. If not, what better time than right now to put your trust in the Savior. Then invite an unsaved friend to join you as you take a daily walk through the New Testament. It's a wonderful way to introduce others to your Savior as well.

Insight

And Now a Word from Our Creator —
Of the 55 verses in Malachi, 47 are spoken by God—the highest proportion of any prophetical book. Malachi is also the only prophet who ends his book on a note of judgment rather than hope (note the final word of the book)—a fitting conclusion to the Old Testament because it underscores mankind's sinful condition and sets the stage for God's solution in the person of Messiah.

Adage

The Gospel is neither a discussion nor a debate; it is an announcement.
